“Hey, do you remember that prom thing from a couple of years ago?” Alfred asked quietly as he shifted closer to Arthur and nestled himself against the small crook of his neck.
In response, the grass snake chuckled and reached out to play a little with Alfred’s hair. “Hm, yes I do. Such a silly thing it was. That dress shirt was itchy.”
The rattlesnake laughed quietly, lest he woke the sleeping children from the sound. “Ah yes, and I was an awkward youth. But it was fun.”
“It was, it was, despite our attempts to dance as humans did.”
Alfred nodded in agreement as he picked up a flower from the grass and leaned over to tuck it into Arthur’s ear. The grass snake raised his eyebrows at this but didn’t say a word and waited instead. It looked like Alfred had something in mind and he wasn’t going to interrupt him.
“Well then,” the rattlesnake started off, running a thumb along the curve of Arthur’s cheek. “In honour of our silly childhood, may I have this dance, Arthur?”
